Written for Split the Lark New Music Ensemble for their concert on settings of Emily Dickinson poems. The instruments conflict with the vocalist with an eerie "knocking" from the piano. The internal conflict of wanting and not wanting to return, as well as a musical conflicts of major/minor and consonance/dissonance, is weaved into the song's overall fearful quality.
